One month later...

Have we really been in school for over a month already? Is it really October right now? These last several weeks have been a complete blur of readings, homework, and new routines. It seems like a never ending cycle and just when I'm mostly caught up with everything that's due, there's half a dozen new assignments I need to focus my attention on. And that's just my General Methods class with Dr. Smirnova!

I feel like I've already gained a wealth of knowledge in these few short weeks that will be useful and relevant for years to come. A Direct Instruction lesson? Sure, I could tell you a bit out that. While lecturing can be a factor, there is much more involved that standing at the front of the class droning on and on.

Is there a difference between Models, Strategies, and Methods? As a matter of fact, YES!! Models are broad and philosophical. Strategies are the steps that will allow you to implement your chosen model. And methods are the specify way the strategy will be implemented. These words can not just be used all willy-nilly!!

What's the proper format when writing an objective? Why, C-B-C (condition, behavior, criteria) and don't you DARE think about including the words "will be able to!"

I've already been thrown head first into a collaborative group project and actually ~gasp~ enjoyed myself! Dr. McNally would be so proud! (I'm also taking Collaboration with Professionals and Parents this semester). This project taught be about the wonderful world of GoogleDocs. And that's just the tip of the ice burg when it comes to useful online resources that are at my fingertips. Need a fun new way to introduce your class to new vocabulary words or to use in an anticipatory set while doing a preassessment of their knowledge? Just check out Wordle (notice my spiffy image included in this post with key words?)!
